DyboApp is a software application designed for editing and managing educational documents, intended for both teachers and students. While it resembles interactive whiteboard software or a handwritten note-taking app, it is much more than that. It is distributed under a temporary proprietary license, free for individuals to use, and its source code is available. Its ultimate goal is to be distributed under the free GPL license once funding for the Dybo project is established.
With this application, teachers deliver their lessons using documents in the form of virtual sheets of paper containing handwritten notes. Educational documents in PDF format can also be integrated directly into the application, allowing users to write notes on top of them. Organization is designed to be smooth and hassle-free regarding both documents and assigned tasks.
DyboApp at a Glance
Data Organization
Documents are organized into educational binders following a Class-Course-Subject hierarchy. When a binder is opened to a specific subject, documents are presented as thumbnails, each featuring quick actions to edit, delete, or export the document. From any given subject view, management operations are provided to import or create new documents.
On the administrative side, users can adjust the organization of their educational binders and course schedules, with the application assisting in lesson planning.
Geometry Tools
A dedicated geometry tools panel contains classic instruments such as the ruler, set square, compass, and even the well-known "geodreieck". These tools are adapted to make constructions easier.
Dynamic Knowledge Models
The educational experience of a document is enriched by Dynamic Knowledge Models (DKMs). Various DKMs alternately represent interactive geometry, timelines, physics simulations, text notes, calculation spaces, concept maps, and more. The array of DKMs is set to expand to cover various taught subjects.
Any DKM instance integrated into a document is actionable and manipulable by the user. Moreover, just like illustrations in a textbook, the view of a DKM instance can be annotated—or scribbled on!—using a pen or marker.
These instances are described using text scripts via a Domain-Specific Language (DSL). Thus, from a single DKM, hundreds of dynamic model instances can be defined. These instances are grouped into a library for later reuse or peer sharing.
The design of these scripts can be AI-assisted. The DKM editor includes specific training data for each DKM, ready to be pasted into the prompt of any AI.

The Dybo Project?
DyboApp is part of the Dybo project. Its goal is to create a free software and hardware ecosystem for the education system, aimed at both teachers and learners. It aims to replace most educational equipment (textbooks, notebooks, instruments, etc.).
Its software dimension will rely on a GNU/Linux host system, a lightweight graphical environment (X-Window), and a Cuis-Smalltalk application serving as the main educational gateway: DyboApp.
Its hardware dimension will be based on an ARM architecture and a dual A4 screen operating with a stylus, all integrated into a thick notebook format. It is designed to be easily maintainable and repairable locally.
